How we pick
What makes the list
We make, stock and sell none of these. Each is somebody else’s product, and we point you to it. What we do is measure three things, strictly; the measures decide the pick, not a brand or a deal.
Price
What it costs, and what it costs per year of use. Some picks are cheap. Some are the one place we think you should spend. A price that cannot be justified against the years keeps a product off the list.
Consistency
The same product, made the same way, year after year. No surprise redesigns, no quiet downgrades. A product that changed under its own name is measured again from nothing.
Customer ratings
What people say after owning it a long while, not the week it arrived. We read the long reviews and the returns, never the star alone.
One of each
One pick per kind of thing, and only one. When the three measures agree, that is the item; when they do not, nothing is listed until they do. Opinionated on purpose: fewer choices, less second-guessing.
